Every platform counts differently
The reason a post that reads perfectly on Instagram gets cut off on X is simple: every platform sets its own character limit, and they are nowhere near each other. A caption has 280 characters to work with on X but 2,200 on Instagram and TikTok. Most counters only check one platform, so you find out something is too long only after you have already pasted it in. This one checks all of them as you type.

A note on emoji and links
Character counting is not always one-to-one. On X, every link counts as 23 characters no matter how long it actually is, and some emoji count as two. This tool counts each emoji as a single glyph, so if you lean on emoji heavily, give yourself a little extra headroom on the platforms that expand them.
